I haven't really written any comments on this site, but I figured that I should share a quick story on this web site. Last Friday in San Francisco at the record store Amoeba (where I work) we have a DJ session for three hours called "Mandala", usuallly there are two people that do it (for an hour and a half each). Well last Friday I got brave and did an hour and half set of Scritti Politti. I didn't write out the entire set list, so I'll try and remember all the tracks I played (on their big ass speakers!). I know I opened with "Petrococadollar" and followed it up with "Sweetest Girl" but I can't remember the exact order. But for your enjoyment, these are the songs that I did:
1. Petrococadollar
2. Sweetest Girl
3. Skank Bloc...
4. Snow In Sun
5. Faithless
6. Tinseltown to the Boogiedown
7. Boom There She Was
8. Locked
9. First Goodbye
10.Wood Beez
11.Lions After Slumber
12.She's A Woman
13.Word Girl
14.Robin Hood
15.Perfect Way
16.Boom Boom Bap
17.Smith N' Slappy
18.A Little Knowledge (I know that I ended with this song!)

Of course there were others that I would have loved to have played, but time restrictions dictated only these. I love the new album so much, but we have yet to play it in the store and we only received 4 copies of "WBBB" domestic, even though we sold 20 of the import. In anycase it was a way to help push the album, while introducing this band to SF record store shoppers. Unfortunately, I don't think many people I work with got it. In anycase I loved doing it. Green Gartside is one of the most talented songwriters of my generation and I wanted to express this. Thanks for reading!

I don't quite recall where I've been over the last couple of months, I think I must have been dead or something. Anyway, I am that (one?) sucker who completely missed everything: the first rumours, the gigs (Amsterdam, of all places, how could I have missed that), the release, well, like I said, everything.

But, last Friday I finally got my personal copy of WBBB and it surprisingly gave me the same musical shock Provision did when I first heard it. At first, I thought it sounded transparent, but it turned out no to be that obvious. No, au contraire, I think WBBB hides some treats only the careful listener will discover. While listening I thougt to hear guitar chords from early David Bowie to the Beatles, vocal arrangements between Beach Boys and Queen, and then again I didn't. And then those lyrics. Boy, have I got homework to do to understand the true impact of this album.

In the meantime I'll keep a good eye on this very nice website. Hopefully, the, as I deducted from the videofootage and reviews, succesful gig @Paradiso will be continued soon.
