Can anyone catch the words in the rap at the end of Road to No Regret? did he say “roll back the reign of Scritti Politti”? just to hear Green drop Scritti’s name, again, wow.
I think the last line was “when you’re living in Londontown, you are very blessed to see all these concerts”! or maybe “you can get down”, same diff.
I was at the gig and I must say it was a bit of a disaster. Scritti were great. But Westminster Council ruined for everyone by enforcing some very silly laws about how many people could gather on the lawn in front of the stage. Without going into detail, what happened was the performers had a small group of people directly in front of them, then a half empty lawn, then crowds of people behind fences around the edges peering on. A very unsatisfactory experience for both attendees and artists. Black marks for the Tate and the jobsworths at the council.
Aw, thanks for making these available, David and John. I still can’t view any of these because of my Quicktime problem but helps me to concentrate on the music!
Unfortunately I’m not getting to see any of these shows because of work but I can hear a lot of improvement from the Kilburn and Brixton gigs.
Wood Beez sounds superb. When I heard that this was on the setlist at recent gigs I was half-expecting a version more stripped-down and similar to the original demo. I’m really glad that so much trouble has clearly gone into re-creating the essence of the 1984 version. It’s never been a particular favourite of mine from that album but somehow it sounds fantastic live (great synth work from Rhodri in particular though everyone does a great job and I prefer Green’s vocals live, less unearthly than on the record).
Boom Boom Bap sounded magnificent (was that a Boom Boom burp or a growl I heard in the intro)?
Having slagged off what I see as the appalling production of ‘After Six’ on the album, I must say it sounds a whole lot better played with guitars rather than the anaemic synths on WBBB.
I’m still waiting for the appeal of ‘Hands Up’ to reveal itself to me. I just don’t get it at the moment. ‘Come Clean’ is such a great song – I hope they’re still playing that.
A shame if a potentially great evening was marred by failings in the organisation. But the crowd reaction sounded enthusiastic from the clips.
it would be great if there would be access to all those songs in the audio section of bibbly-o-tek for all those (like me) who cant play the videos out of technical reasons!

First thing I checked: Woodbeez. Most basslines of the 80’s suck, but this one is booty :)
Love the small changes Rhodri added to Boom Boom as well. Those clips are just great.
Sitting here in a hotel room in Edinburgh, awaiting taxi to the airport. Well, we ballsed up “Hands Up” a little, didn’t we, but the rest sounding marvellous. Dicky is giggling over my shoulder.

Brilliant concert at the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh last night. Took the wife, who was no great Scritti fan beforehand – now she’s a believer too. She loved Come Clean, Boom Boom Bap and Hands Up best. For me it had to be Sweetest Girl, but so much of WBBB sounded brilliant live. Never thought I’d get to see GG perform on stage. Happy, happy.

What makes you think the All Hallowed Green One would approve of all this sycophantic praise?
Personally, i’m not seeking the Green One’s approval. Neither of course his disapproval, let that be noted. I’m fully aware of his attitude towards fansites.
I’m working on this site because i love the music and enjoy sharing that love with other fans. If he disapproves of that, well, that’s just too bad. Not gonna stop me in any way!
Sorry to gave a whinge, but the Tate’s handling of the queue for tickets was absolutely appalling. I got there at 4.30 and when there were about twenty people – a mixture of Scitti heads and others. At 5.20 when the queue had grown to about two hundred (quel suprise!) the staff announce that we all have to move. No attempt at management so an unholy scrum ensues and the people who were originally at the front end up the back. By 5.30 the queue must have grown to a thousand people. No attempt by the Tate to tell people that most – myself – included- would be disappointed and no apology. I went back to see Scritti, but no was trying to recycle tickets. Enjoyed the music and thanks to Green et al. But the Tate and its staff were shocking. I complained charmingly at the time, but the attitude was tough mate!

Whoops, Rhodri, and I thought Dave was the Linda McCartney of the group ;-) Seriously, I shouldn’t have singled you out for praise in a group with two keyboard players – however I wasn’t just talking about the synth solo on Wood Beez so you can take some credit as well!

And I don’t want to sound ungrateful. It was just so annoying especially after such wonderful shows at Hay and Oxford ;-).
the edinburgh gig was indeed something special indeed. like david bishop said earlier, i also took my wife – a serial scritti non believer and her head was well and truly turned. the atmosphere was great and it looked like the band were having so much fun. i was enjoying myself too much to be able to remember the set list but it was mostly stuff off ‘white bread…’ with the obligatory old stuff and hip hop covers (though I was stumped by the encore track – a fast 2 minute pop song???). the most impressive thing was that all the different material from different eras in such differing styles meshed together so well. GG is such a great live performer and the band are wonderful. More, please!
