I think also that Green's body language didn't suggest that he was having the greatest of times....ditto that of Alyssa as well, come to that....perhaps it was a case of his nervousness with the live performance of tunes that he is not yet fully comfortable with, as in the early DGATTT days. His guitar was proving a distraction for him, certainly!

I really liked the second and third songs from the end in particular - I thought they played the best to Green's voice.

It'll be really interesting to see what falls out of this union - an album would be good! There's certainly enough signs from last night that some excellent tunes could result...though I think the first track might need some serious work ha ha!

I was impressed with Koko as a venue from an aesthetic perspective, but I'm with you in thinking someone needs to re-think the acoustics, which were pretty poor in my opinion.

I agree with all your comments, Jon. I feared the worst during the first song, memorable only for backing by 'man with maracas' - things improved throughout and there were a couple of really lovely songs. Maybe it was the acoustics but Green's vocals were less distinctive than I've ever heard them. Alexis sounded very like Ian Broudie. I left thinking there'll probably make a very good album but live it was a bit underwhelming and the songs felt unfinished which quite possibly they were. Don't want to be too harsh - this was their first show and I'm sure we'll all enjoy the performances more as we (hopefully) become familiar with the songs through recordings.

Anyone else go to Koko tonight?

I thought it was an interesting performance, even though the gathered masses (and there were a lot of people there) appeared underwhelmed by the collaboration of Green and Alexis.

The songs were clearly experimental, but (imho) were stronger as the set progressed.

Less of a buzz, for me, than the early DGATTT gigs though...thought Green's voice was lost too often. But hey, possibly to be expected.

To save anyone confusion thinking they've heard this before (a lot of the interviews do merge into one, especially when Green trots out the 'American Bandstand' anecdote yet again!), John Hyde sent this link on the yahoo group before. However, even if you heard that at the time it's worth another listen. An interviewer who's done his research and interesting comments by Green about how the music industry has changed. Still waiting to hear those hip-hop tracks, though.
