I think it’s important to remember that at one point Green was working with someone as intelligent of a musician as Green is a songwriter and their music made the entire pop world pay attention.
Gamson was a very important factor for the Scritti sound. Without Gamson, Scritti is a lot less interesting.
Yes, and his new work sounds even more boring. I’d never thought the day would come when Andy Partridge is making more advanced music than Green Gartside…
I do hope Green starts to collaborate with someone who has some sexy and slick productions skills. His voice begs for a twist. It shouldn’t be so normal and obvious as in Black Beer in my opinion. We need some electro funk with booty bass!
Yeah, I agree. There are just so many different permutations of a melodic/harmonic Beatles influence that have already been done. If you’re not innovating rhythmically, it’s gonna be boring. I just realized his whole beard thing and some of the conception of Black Beer is probably his Wyatt influence, but Wyatt always takes bigger risks.
well, seems that Green will be into the indie beatle stuff forever. Sorry to say, but the 80’s will never come back.
David’s contribution to Scritti Politti is amazing…even still today. No one since has had the approach he took to creating the sounds, the arrangements, and the mix of his sequences. He gave his synth sounds personalities I guess, and that interaction between them makes the records so intriguing and exciting to listen to over and over again. Even Fred’s drum playing and programming have the same type of distinct personality treatment.
re: 80’s…hate that 80’s nostalgia thing; would rather see Green working with artists that are moving music forward, that’s all. I thought “Anomie & Bohomie” was one of his best.
I really wish that some kind of way Green and David would hook back up. They had a very unique and funky sound. Even today I”ll be playing Absolute or Boom ” There She Was” while washing my car and people ask who’s that playing? To me David should at least do a solo album. Or even better Cupid & Psyke 2010
David Gamson, wow…where to begin. The man was and is (to a certain extent) a musical genius. The way that he was using the synclavier and the fairlight back in the infancy of electronic/programmed music on the early Scritti records and all of his colloborations with other artists in the mid to late 80’s, simply genius. The sound that he and fred created along with Green was like nothing else out there, and even now nothing can come close to that magical, electro sound….It just has this timeless quality to it that you don’t hear anywhere at all, anymore. And yes for the sake of good music, for the sake of the future creation of good music..I wish that those three would get back together again. They had such a good thing going!!
Like the old saying goes…If it ain’t broke, DON’T TRY TO FIX IT!!
