Well… we suddenly had a budget and were working with all the best musicians, in the best studios, with the best engineers. It was amazing. Green was pretty great about allowing experimentation in the studio, and since he was the one with the checkbook, he was running the sessions. If you could come up with some Rube Goldbergian way to record something, which I usually could, he was game. Those records were basically recording school for us. We got to play with all sorts of ways of doing things, at great expense I might add. Those records took a very long time to make.

Interview David Gamson @ iZotope

For the more technical oriented fans among us, this is a very good read. And I must say I am of course a fan of Gamson’s work. For me Scritti without him is 50% Scritti. Miles Davis without a trumpet, that idea. I am also a fan of iZotope software. Ozone 3 David mentions in the interview I am using for years now on almost a daily basis like him.

I told this story a lot, but without people like Gamson I would probably never be aware that creating sound & working with – not in – the studio can open up new worlds. You want control over the machines, play with it and create something new; a slick total package which is unresistable.

Gamson is responsible for making me aware I can be an audio professional myself. Which I did. And yeah, I am so looking forward to the new tracks!

After trying to find all my old cassette tapes on there – with only a 50% success rate – , i turned my attention to Scritti Politti songs.

Most songs are very easy to find, simply do a search for Scritti Politti. A surprisingly large amount of results, including most 12″ releases and remixes, the Mastermind Turntable mix, A world come back to live, Dead Certainty and the Nice up the area mix of Take me in your arms and love me, one of my personal favourites.

A couple of collaborations are harder to spot. The L is for lover performed by Al Jarreau, Love of a lifetime by Chaka Kahn. Wrap it up of the Eurythmics and Someday of Kylie Minogue is in the spotify collection as well. Even Turn on red by David Gamson! Sadly i couldn’t find I don’t know why i love you.

Interesting that I used Pepsi ads during the A+B phase (with the bottle cap metaphor and White Bread Black Beer I toyed around with Guiness, they are all drink metaphors.  This one is vodka clear!  I hope you enjoy the clip.  –John

Actual track names are subject to change upon final release.

Gamson is very busy these days.  He is credited as producing and  writing “Stephen” and “Backstabber” on Ke$ha’s album “Animal.” This album was #1 on billboard recently. “Tik Tok” on that ablum (which Gamson did not do) just might break Debby Boone’s 1977 hit “You light up my Life” record of 10 consecutive weeks at number 1 by a female artist.  ”Tik Tok” is # 1 now in its 9th week! (Not really Scritti related, but big music news)

Gamson also and recently wrote “Sure Fire Winners” for Adam Lambert’s recent album “For Your Entertainment.”

Current Scritti Politti keyboardist Rockin’ Rhodri Marsden pointed out the revelation of the new best of compilation album on a french website which makes the assertion that it will be available March 29th, 2010. Click here for a link.
